McLaren Announces Arrival of V8 Hybrid Supercars

There is a thrilling update regarding partnerships between manufacturers and suppliers: McLaren and Ricardo will be extending their partnership.

Putting jokes aside, this development is noteworthy because it confirms that McLaren is actively developing a V8 hybrid powertrain for its upcoming supercars. This indicates that their eight-cylinder unit will continue to thrive for years to come.

McLaren currently offers a hybrid engine in the Artura, which utilizes a 671bhp, 3.0-litre V6 paired with an e-motor to achieve impressive results. Thus, the news of a V8 hybrid variant may not be particularly surprising. In fact, McLaren aims to electrify 90% of its supercars to some degree within the next five years.

The V8 hybrid powertrain will be developed by McLaren and assembled by Ricardo at their specialized facility in Shoreham-by-Sea.
